What is a µm?

The µm is a symbol for the measurement of micrometres, also referred as microns.

This measurement is used for the thickness of plastics in the packaging industry.

A special tool known as a micrometer is used to measure the thickness of plastic to determine how many microns thick a sample of plastic is.

In many jurisdictions in Australia various legislation relating to single use plastic bags prohibits retailers from providing single-use, lightweight polyethylene plastic bags less than 35 microns.

Generally, the more microns that is used in plastic film will determine its overall strength for any given application.

Cebit Electronics carries a huge variety of plastic material with many varied micron thicknesses.
